Happenings At Alpha!

New students, a new division of Son Care Foundation, and graduation of two more young men are just a few of the blessings and challenges facing our program.

It seems there is never a lack of students interested in attending Alpha Academy. We continue to get calls from around the state and across the country.

Many heartfelt thanks to all of you who have donated prayer time, materials, time and funds to help make these graduations possible.

Locally, the California National Guard’s Youth Challenge program, known as Grizzly Academy, has been a provider of interested students in the past. One of our students from Grizzly has recently completed his tour in the Marine Corps, and his buddy who attended Alpha with him has graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University. We have several potential students from Grizzly who graduate on June 17th and will interview with us.

Our two newest grads finished on May 31st. What a joyous time for all the staff and students. Certificates were presented, binders with notes of encouragement and remembrance given and a significant prayer time brought all of us together in Christ’s love.

It is difficult in a newsletter to describe the fulfillment all of us enjoy when a young boy becomes a man at Alpha, but in their final days in the program they tell us…

“Alpha Academy was designed perfectly for me. It helped me conquer my remaining fears and face my worst enemy again. I also got my high school diploma. I have to admit, I was not happy when [these issues] were revealed to me. But soon I learned that if I wanted to become a true man in the eyes of God, I would have to give this program my all.”

Our newest division, Thousand Hills Pet Resort, continues to take shape. Program Manager John Oyen, and Asst. Manager Chris Consolo are working tirelessly to spin up a temporary dog day care facility in the corral area, while we await plans from the architect to build the permanent home.

Our cash flow needs demand that we get this operation on line quickly and the staff is on board. We will alert you via email and at www.thousandhillspetresort.com as opening day approaches. Please remember to tell your friends and family when we open, this program has the potential to relieve us from some financial pressures and provide additional work skill opportunities for Alpha students.

The goal of Son Care Foundation and all its various divisions is to be a self-sustaining entity that does not rely on gifts but earns our own way.
