What’s New? Blessings and challenges continue as Alpha grows!

Alpha Academy continues to provide help and mentoring to our target group of young men 18-25 years of age. We currently have two students and are awaiting two more who are in our application and pre-screening process. The challenge, as always, is to balance the current students with the needs of the new arrivals, making sure that the Alpha staff can address and mentor all students equally.

Our two House Leaders, Danny Dearborn and Kyle Gillette do an excellent job of relational ministry with students, taking special time to meet individually with each student and arranging group activities both on and off the ranch.

New Phone System Helps

Thanks to local account executive Stephanie Jennings of Time Warner Telecom, Son Care Foundation has a new phone and voice mail system to assist our different ministries and clients. Stephanie met Director of Outreach, Rob Bryn who briefed her on the need for an updated communications suite to keep up with the growing demands of messages and staff support. Stephanie came out to the ranch, surveyed the needs and determined that our present service provider was adequate and priced competitively.

But Stephanie didn’t give up, and thought she could help Alpha sell its present system and obtain a new updated communications package. Stephanie found a broker who paid $3,000 for the phone system originally donated by our friends at Mission Community Bank. Alpha now has a brand new voice mail system, expandable for the future, with new desk sets and the ability to transfer calls and communicate between staff!

Thanks Stephanie and Time Warner Telecom for catching the vision of Alpha and stepping up to help. If you are interested in researching phone service for your business, Stephanie Jennings can be reached at 805-597-5611.

Thousand Hills Pet Resort Opens!

Thousand Hills Pet Resort, our newest support program, is in its third week and getting a lot of attention. Special thanks go to Dr. Eric Anderson, DVM, head of Animal Services for the San Luis Obispo Sheriff's Dept., and his staff for helping us to open and provide temporary kennel facilities prior to construction of the main pet cottage complex.

Local NBC affiliate KSBY's Kimberly Romo did a feature story on Alpha and how Thousand Hills Pet Resort supports the students and staff. The story generated several inquiries as well as some new customers! In addition, 13,000 postcards advertising the pet resort were mailed to San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande and Pismo Beach.

Local KVEC radio talk show host (and animal lover!) Dave Congalton hosted resort manager John Oyen, operations manager Chris Consolo and Rob Bryn to discuss Thousand Hills' contribution to animal care on the Central Coast.

When people see or hear about Alpha and Thousand Hills Pet Resort they are excited! We encourage all our supporters to stop by and see the doggie daycare play yard or visit www.thousandhillspetresort.com to see the unique facility. Don't forget, if you live in the San Luis Obispo area and need doggie daycare, shampoos, overnight boarding, or know someone that does, use Thousand Hills Pet Resort– the income will keep us going!

Brent Feffer of our MissionCars division is working on contacting all central coast churches to introduce them to our vehicle donation program. Founder Jack Gould, Rob Bryn and Brent attended the Evangelical Pastors Association monthly meeting and dedication of the new Agape Chr istian Fellowship ministry complex in San Luis Obispo.

Pastor Mike Sparrow hosted the event and allowed the Alpha Academy staff a full 20 minutes to describe our car donation program and how we could benefit local churches. Grace Church, Church of the Nazarene, Agape, Four Square of Morro Bay, First Baptist of SLO and Tree of Life (teen pregnancy outreach) have agreed to participate. MissionCars will take the donation, detail, do minor mechanical work, advert ise, sell , process all DMV and IRS paperwork and split the proceeds with the participating church or missionary.

Do you have a vehicle, boat, RV or truck to donate? Call Brent Feffer at 805-596-0258 .

Prayer & Support Opportunities

Our goal is to be self-sustaining, not relying on gifts but earning our own way. We also want to tithe to other local ministries, after our own bills are paid. Those of you who would like to help us reach our goal may assist in any way you feel appropriate.

Please pray for:

  • Eric and Jeremy (new students) and Phil (current student)
  • Brice & Rob (recent grads, at military training)
  • Several young men who have applied as students
  • Continued financial provision, and guidance in new business projects

Thank you for your prayers! We need them!
